Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC)

PPC or Portland Pozzolana Cement is a kinds of blended cement which is processed by clinker, 15-35% pozzolanic and 4% gypsum material. As per BIS, PPC is a 33 grade cement. PPC makes the concrete more impermeable and dense by reacting with calcium hydroxide freed by the hydrated Portland cement and forming cementatious compounds. It can be safely used in the building of hydraulic structures, marine works, mass concreting, and other applications. It prevents the alkali-aggregate reaction in concrete.

Purbanchal Cement Ltd. brings to you Surya Cement made with Asia's richest limestone, ensuring superior quality. The factory is strategically located to assure supply of fresh cement across Assam. Cutting-edge manufacturing technology and comprehensive R&D ensure consistency in the quality of cement manufactured.

Unique Features of PPC Cement

Unique Features of PPC Cement
  • The water cement reaction produces strength giving compound and calcium hydroxide. Pozzolana of PPC reacts with calcium hydroxide and produces additional strength giving compound. This continuing reaction increases the strength and durability of structure.
  • Due to higher fineness, PPC produces more strength giving compounds and thus results in increased water-tight (Impermeable) structures.
  • Water - PPC reaction evolves least heat. Higher heat evolution develops higher temperature gradient causing strain and cracks even in new structures.
  • Addition of fly ash in PPC eliminates the risk of alkali - silica (aggregate) reaction which results in development of expansive forces causing cracks and weakening of concrete.
OPC

We are the first company in the NE region to introduce the concept of freshness in cement. We have made the consumer aware that the strength of structure depends on the freshness of cement. The older the cement is, the lesser is the strength.

Good axioms of proper inventory management are

  • Buy only the quantity required for the week or for the fortnight.
  • Please make sure the cement bag is not torn.
  • Do not allow workers to use hooks or sharp tools to lift the bags.
  • The cement should be stored in a godown built with minimum 300mm plinth height.
  • Check whether the roof of the shed leaks. If so, repair it.
  • Always store cement away from the wall.
  • Do not store cement directly on the floor. Use wooden planks/pallets or polythene sheets.
  • Place cement bags one layer length-wise and one layer width-wise (header and stretcher style) for better stability of the pile.
  • Always adopt first-in-first-out approach (FIFO system).

The binding property and strength of the cement depends on its capacity for chemical reaction, which can take place in the presence of water. Cement tends to absorb moisture and react with it chemically. The basic requirement is that, the cement should not come in contact with water or moisture until it is used. If it does, it will react and form lumps- after which it will lose its reactivity and this in turn will result in less strength. Remember, cement loses strength as it ages.

Reduction in binding property of cement and strength of cement with age (in standard storage condition):

Age of cement (day) Reduction in strength
180 30%-45%
90 20%-30%
60 15%-20%
30 10%-15%
15 03%-06%
